WHich wire is the #1 spark plug wire

The #1 spark plug wire is the one on the drivers side all the way up front right. Just checking, According to my timing light off of this wire my car WAS at about 19degrees before tdc. I dropped it down to about 12btdc. Just wanted to make sure you check your timing off of the drivers side wire all the way in the front.

Jason, You'll want to clamp the wire as close to the spark plug as you can get, but not on the boot, and not touching the exhaust.

#1 plug wire can be anywhere on the distributor. It all depends on how the distributor was dropped into the engine. With #1 cylinder at TDC you can pull the distributor, turn the oil pump drive with a screwdriver and drop the distributor back in with the rotor pointed at whatever plug wire you want. That plug wire could now be #1 and the rest of the wires would need to be rotated around to match.

#1 cylinder is always the one at the front of the engine. On chev the driver side is more forward than the passenger side.

Oh I am so happy to hear that said! I had such an arguement over that a while ago (January of 2001) : https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=60772 Maybe this old message will help explain things... keep in mind it's for a 2.8 V6, which has a different #1 cylinder than a V8, but same principles apply...
