Help with a 360, rocker arms noisy and no start.

It's in a thirdgen of course. Seriously 76 Dodge 4x4.
The truck will start one hour the next it won’t. I'm leaning toward the coil because the ICU was replaced a year ago when it was having the same problem and it ended up being a coil problem. The coil isn’t really getting hot like a bad coil tends to "last year it was getting so hot the chrome coil discolored” but when I chased down all the hot wires through the ignition system everything that I know of that needed power had power.

The next problem is a noisy valve train. I replaced the lifters & pushrods and the noise was reduced from about a 10 to a 5. I know Dodge only expects 30K from their pushrods but the rockers shouldn’t wear out should they? The noise wasn’t present right after I installed the new lifter and pushrods, it only stared up again after the poly grease wore off the valve train. The rocker shafts were tqd to 200in pounds should I try a little more??

Again I know its not thirdgen but any help would be very appreciated!

i rebuilt one and done some other work on one in a jeep truck long time ago. same problem, no start, and it was the ignition control box, but the jeep had a ford unit. i bet you have a timing or too low an octane problem making the rockers appear to be making excessive noise. as you know there isn't any adjustment to tighten it up or to get out of adjustment. make sure the push rods aren't bent and the cam isn't worn.

Thanks for the reply Ede! The push rods are new and I'm amazed at the difference in diameter between the Melling replacement pushrods and the stockers the melling replacments got some beef. I can try another ignition box it cant hurt and I'll try timing it again.

Thanks!
