How do you set base timing on an LG4 with a divorced-coil HEI ?

There is no EST disconnect, so i have no clue.
It's an 87 caprice.
For those that wonder which distributor I'm referring too, it'd be the same distributor as my 91 RS has, or an 88 IROC, or a 90 Firebird, etc...
Not a vaccum advance, and not a coil-in cap HEI without vaccum advance.
The wiring is just like a coil-in cap HEI with no vaccum advance, just without the EST disconnect..

Put a jumper (paper clip) on terminals A & B on the diagnostic connector hanging down under the dash. Start the car. THis will cancel out any computer-fed advance and return you to base timing. The Service Engine Soon light will be lit while running this way, but your computer timing advance will be 0* under all conditions. The SES light will go out when you shut it off, remove the paper clip and restart again.
I have to do it this way on my TBI 91 GMC Jimmy which uses essentially the same system as your 87 Caprice, ignition wise.
Please note: Your Caprice might want you to jumper different terminals than A&B on my Jimmy. Just remember, all you're looking for is the same 2 terminals that you would jumper if you were trying to spit out trouble codes from the computer. In any case it will always be 2 terminals in one of the extreme corners of the connector, side by side, not up and down from eachother. You can further tell which 2 pins it is since the other 3 corners won't have any metal connectors or wires in them- they will be empty holes. So you should be able to logic your way into finding the right pins to jumper.
