vibration in car with a/c on
vibration in car with a/c on
has anyone come up with a fix on how to stop a/c belt vibration on cars with drive side mounted compressor. i have tried tightening the belt so hard i almost roll the car over, i have tried loose, i have tried extra short belts but cannot seem to come up with the correct combination....an ideas?

Now I feel relieved that i'm not the only person fighting this same problem! I've seen this happen on every driver's side V-belt compressor i've ever watched operate, and it does make a lot of vibration. My belt deflects so badly it whacks the upper mounting bolt on the compressor bracket. You'd think GM would have made an idler wheel for this.
To fix mine, i'm just gonna convert to serpentine when(ever) I swap in the new engine.

I'd say swapping to serpentine is the only way to cure it for good, though I could get mine tight enough that it woud be OK for a while with a 1/2 inch drive ratchet.

Do you still have the support bar brace things sticking off the A/C compressor bolted on to the block (or was it the exhaust manifold botls, can't remember) to add rigidity? I didn't bother to put that stuff back on when I did headers, and found out the hard way that adds a ****load of noticeable vibration inside the car anytime you turn it on. Bolted those supports (? Think there was more than one, maybe I'm mistaken) back on and it cured it right up. My belt was never visibly wobbling enough to impact anything though, WTF is up with that?

does anyone have any machine shop contacts....how about fabricating a pully to ride on the belt between the compressor and water pump pulley? maybe the tensioner pulley could ride on the top of the belt....wouldn't take much
any takers?

man i dunno but that is annoying i have loud exhaust and when i turn the AC on it sounds like a helicopter under the car or something, it over powers the exhaust on the inside...
"how about fabricating a pully to ride on the belt between the compressor and water pump pulley?" that sounds like a good idea...
