Do they pop the hood for 1983 cars for E-test in Md? My last test the hood was opened to look for charcoal canister, overlooking the AIR belt not hooked up. They visual inspect for cat. No tread mill.

AFAIK they visually inspect for the catalytic converter and don't pop the hood. The hard thing is that they do a treadmill test for non-OBDII cars.

I think it depends county to county here. I know in Calvert they don't.

Just had mine done in January at the E Ordnance Rd station in northern AA county. No underhood inspection. Not even a cat inspection. They just put it on the dyno and 30 seconds later they told me it "fast passed"

Back from the dead - talk about an old post.

"Fast pass" I was told meant that the car ran so clean it did not need to run the entire test which lasts 3-5 minutes. The car was only on the rollers for 30 seconds or so. This was back in 99 or 00...
