87 steering column into 83 F-body Q....

I have a friend who has an 83 Z-28. Someone tried to steal the car, and destroyed his steering column. He bought a replacement from an 87 Formula. Now i know some of the wiring is different on the 82-83 cars, but Im not sure which parts. Could someone give me a good simple description of how to modify the wiring to get his new column to work right? TIA.

Not an easy task.

The main difference is that the entire turn signal switch and wiring assembly is quite a bit different. The Camaros have separate light bulbs for brake lights and turn signals, but the Birds use the same bulbs for both.

If he took the columns apart, it's not impossible to swap the TS wiring though. But if he's not familiar with steering columns he'd do better to find one out of a Camaro.

Other than the TS wiring, what else is different?

hypothetically, if it were going in another ;Bird, what would he need to do?

I don't think there's anything else different, but I'm not that familiar with the options in Birds. Of course you'd want to get one with the same wipers, cruise / no cruise, man / auto, etc. just to avoid having to swap stuff over; but the basic guts are the same, except that man columns have the little key release thing and auto ones don't.
