Compressor for Air Conditioner
Compressor for Air Conditioner
Is my compressor for the air conditioner supposed to be turning on and off when just me heater is on?
Here's the deal, my heater core started leaking so I had to rip the dash out and replace it. Somewhere along the lines I messed up one of the vacuum hoses for the heater system so now my heater is stuck on defrost (same with air conditioner). And now I've noticed that the compressor keeps clicking on and off when the heater fan is running. Could this be tied in with the vacuum hose problem? How hard is it to fix a broken vacuum hose? Do I have to pull the whole dash out again to fix a broken vacuum hose....or can I just pull out the heater assembly?
Please, any input here would be helpful.
Thanx Everyone,
Bryce

The A/C should run when the control head is in one of the 3 A/C functions (Max, Norm, Bi-Level) and when it's in Defrost. It should not run in Heat and Vent only.
Vacuum is not involved in telling the compressor when to run. All it is used for is to direct the airflow.
Your compressor should probably not be cycling at the temp it is this time of the year. Being low on Freon will cause it to cycle, and eventually as it gets lower it will stop working altogether.
You might be able to fix whatever your vacuum issue is by removing the A/C control head.
