ok folks, see what you think. I have an 82 TA CFI and I just got the Exhaust fixed. Now I can hear much better what the Engine is doing when driving. I notice that (mostly) after 2nd gear, when I accelerate, I hear a pinging or knocking sound. The more I punch the pedal, the louder it gets.

Here's some more history:

- The Timing is advanced.
- Fuel Grade is either 89 or 92 octane.
- Knock Sensor is a year old.

The car runs great, just have that sound to listen to. I thought it could be the Fuel Injectors, but I took the cover off and watched the Injectors spray. They seem to spit out at the same time, and the amount is the same.


Any Idea's?

 

back the timing up, run more octane, check it for knock counts, wrap the knock senser with some teflon tape, you can run a resister in line with the knock senser but i don't know what size

hey Rebirth, when you say knocking are you hearing a ticking, or what?
Because my car is doing that when I accel too and the knock sensor is brand new..
I'm runing premium and I'm getting some ticks as I accel.. it might only be an exhaust leak in my case though

 

Red_Demon, I just fixed my exhaust leak and it's still there. It sounds like a tick. It really get's loud when I punch the gas even more. It could be the Trottle Body because that's where the sound is coming from, but that's from listening to the sound inside the car.

 

try retorqueing your exhaust manifold bolts, cause mine ticked and then i pulled the motor out and a couple of the bolts were about finger tight, so that could be your problem

 

Make sure the spark plugs are (a) the right kind and (b) in all the way.

 

that's the same problem I'm having too rebirth.. I can't find the damn leak anywhere.. I'm taking the car to the dealership ASAP I've done everythign in my power to make it work correctly...
