how do I replace the ignition switch! please help, urgent!

Hello

I have an 89 firebird, I am trying to replace the ignition switch.

it is a tilt wheel, and it has a console shifter...

I am not tying to replace the key tumbler.

I know where the switch is I believe, its at the top left of the steering colum.
the problem is, I am trying to get to it, and I dont know how.

what I have done so far:
I have removed the gauge cluster. thought itwould have helped.
dont know if it was nescessary.

I think the switch is under a plastic cover on the steering colum, not the part attacthed to the wheel itself, but the plastic cover that is about an inch past the steering wheel tilt cover.

to anyone who knows how to do this, please respond ASAP, I am already into this project, and if I cant contiue soon, I have to put it back together again.

thanx

alrite!!!

found an old chiltons manual.
I followed the instructions for an ignition switch for a truck.

I didnt need remove the gauge cluster....

didnt need to remove the plastic bit.

its just 2 lousy bolts, dropped the steering colum

unfortunatley, the auto store put the wrong part in the right box, so I had to put it all back together, guess ill tackle this next week.
