Too much valve springs?
I seen some v. springs for a real good price and was wondering if you can go too big, pressure and installed height wise. I have TF heads with XR276 hyd roller cam. The spring specs are OD-1.560" ID-.740" 245lbs@1.950" seat pressure, 585lbs@1.270" open pressure, and 1.170" coil bind Thanks for any help you guys can offer
Thats way too much seat pressure for a hydraulic cam. I also have TrickFlow heads and inquired about upgrading the springs. Here was the reply I got after e-mailing TrickFlow:
Increasing the spring pressure on a hydraulic roller is a good thing, to a point of course. I would recommend that you use the following TFS parts:
Locks: 51400444 machined 7*.
Retainers: 51400423 1.470" diameter.
Springs: 31400414 1.470" dual spring, 135lbs @ 1.780" / 375lbs @
1.180", .600" max.
Spring cups: 51400434 1.470" diameter.
Valve seals: 51400454 Positive clamp viton rubber.
You will need to notch the spring cups on the two center exhaust springs in
order to install the headbolt. If I remember correctly, The spring cups on
each end exhaust spring will also need to be notched......
Thanks,

the springs need to match your cam look in the cam grinders catalog and see what spring they use and buy it or one with the same or similar specs. cheap springe aren't a bargin and good springs that are a bargin are often not any good either. i'd stay away from k motion and gmpp springs. look at lunati or comps springs.
