Please help me

ok I have an 89 TPI 305 Trans am. last week my car died on me. it wouldent start so i sprayed some carb cleaner into the throttle body and then it started. i figured it was the fuel pump. i changed it and tried to start it and again it didn,t start. do i have to prime the pump or anything? if not what else could it be. it still starts on carb cleaner.

did you check for power at the fuel pump? do you hear it when you cycle the key, yes it does have to be primed but 15 or so seconds of cranking will do this. Did you check the inertia switch? fuel pump relay? DO you have fuel pressure.

These are the first things to try, if it fires on carb cleaner then you have everthing else but fuel.
