Code for VATS? Do you mean a VATS error code? That would be a 46, 53, or 58 (and a 56 on Cadillacs, just in case).

your vats is tied in with the starter so i would suspect you have a loose or broken wire from when you installed headers or other work around that area as it happened to me wich left me dumbfounded for a week of sometimes starting sometimes not with it setting the code only sometimes,, also ran across the situation of the key wearing out with the chip in it witch is happening more frequently as these cars age,,don
