PED = Packard Electric Division of General Motors. They are the electric wire, connector, and wiring device division of the corporation, similar to AC/Delco/Delphi being the electronics and sensor division and supplier. Packard Electric is the inventor of the WeatherPak connector. They also sell to other companies with the WeatherPak connectors under license, spark plug wires, wiring devices, etc. You'll see a lot of WeatherPak connectors on Ford, Volkswagen, and other vehicles. NOW who's got the better idea? (I guess Ford stopped using that slogan about the time they started buying steering pumps and gearboxes from GM.)

The number following the PED name is likely their part nunmber or series.
