Tonight I was working on my car.I noticed a few things.
First of all I removed the instrument panel cover.THe thing that goes over the plastic. And I noticed there to be like 2 small shift like lookin things. What are they? One was right next to the speedo and the other right next to the tach.Another thing is.If I remove the factory speedo and tach. Can replace them with autometer one's?I am putting my oil pressure, temp, transtemp where the radio and Ac/heater controls Used to be.I want my speedo and tach to be where the factory one's are.Does anyone know if they will fit.My dad is making me a aluminum cover that will replace the stock plastic one.I know the gauges I want have a 5 inch face. While the factory one's are 4 3/8.
Also My car's igniton tumbler is broke.I know how to replace them.I replaced the one in my truck.I want to gut the steering column.Like all the blinker switch's and stuff. Can I do this without messing anything else up?I don't need a horn either.
Also an update on my motor.I bought a 350 bolt main block with a cast crank for 35 bucks from a friend of a friend.I took it to the machine shop and found it is was already .030.But it wasn't cracked. But the machine shop went out of business.(and the napa that was connected to it)So I got my block back. But I still need to get the machine work done. They did do the crank. It had to be turned .010 but it was straight.
Also has anyone ever used Autogauge gauge's by autometer.Like my name says I am on a budget. And I can't see spending 250-300 bucks on a tach when I could get one for 100-115 that does the same thing.I have a cheapo tach from autozone in my truck and it works just fine.I plan on using Autometer gauge's though.Just not the tach.
Thanks for any help/

If you remove the turn signal switch, you also will remove the wiper control, since the turn signal arm functions as both. If you don't need any of those (as for a drag car) you can remove anything you want.
I'm not sure how well the aftermarket gauges will fit without serious modification to the dash. Electrically, you'll have to use a feed directly to the coil and ignore the factory wiring, since most tachs have their own filter network. Not sure what you mean by "shift-looking-thingy" - got a photo?
