rebuild costs, rough estimate
i have someone who's gonna give me a 1990 caddy motor he says will fit a chevy tranny.... im just curious what a machine shop would charge to just rebuilt the bottom end of the motor and clean it up, magnaflux etc.??? dont need it bored over or anything, i'm planning on reusing my tpi setup as well, this is a different question but would i have to change the computer chip or anything else over to accomidate for the 350??
i really doubt if it'll have a SBC bolt pattern, more likely a BOP pattern. local machine shop here charges 150 dollars for a bottom end assembly, parts extra naturally. depending on the amount of machine work figure 200 at least and there is no cap, all depends on how far you want to go. basically my shop charges 40 to clean and hone, 30 to install cam bearings, 15 to install freeze plugs, 30 to resurface the deck, 8 dollars a hole to bore. not sure on crank grinding rates, i think polish is 25. unless i want the deck resurfaced, good idea if it's pitted much, or i need a bored oversize i do it all myself and save a little bit on machine work if it's my engine or charge the owner for the work and make more money for myself.

sounds good, i guess its a better idea to just call them and see what my options are.... i havent had a chance to look at the caddy block to see if its similar, but i may just get my 305 redone so i wont have to change the injectors or any of the computer crap... thanks for the reply
