Non third gen.I need some help.

I got a new truck today.It is a 84 chevy 1/2 ton 2wd.It has a 305 with a th350.

First of all whenever it sits for a while and I start it up and put it in gear.U have to rev it up for a couple seconds. Then let off. When u give it gas again it takes off like normal. It has B&M shift kit in it.The trans was rebuilt not that long ago. What could be the problem.

Also The 305 runs great. It smokes alittle bit on start up.The valve seals are bad.I was wondering if it would be even worth my time to hop up the 305.The truck is going to be my daily driver. So it has to meet all the emissions stuff still.

I have some 327 heads that I ported myself. And had them rebuilt.I was going to use them on my camaro. But I think they mihgt be better on my truck.I read somewhere that the Edelbrock performer is just a replacement manifold.Does this mean if I get one it won't help at all?I have a holley 750Dp that I was going to use on my car.(I bought it used and it needs rebuilt)This would be way to big for the 305 wouldn't it.Would an edelbrock carb be better for a daily driver than a Holley? Also does anyone know if my truck has a computer.

Thanks for any help.I am going to use my buddies digital camera to get some pics of my car and my new truck.

Check your fluid level when the engine is fully warmed up and the shifter is in neutral. Might be low.

Also, when they rebuilt your tranny, did they replace the TC?

I am not sure if they replaced the TC or not.

It was my sister's and her boyfriends truck. They split up.So yesterday she called me and asked if I would go with her to get it.Because it was my sister's truck. Her grandpa gave it to her.(she is my step sister)So I went with her.She said she had no use for it.And I have been looking for my own vehicle for a while.(right now I am driving one of my dad's truck and he likes to get mad at me and take it away)So we got to talking and she said she would sell it to me for 500 bucks.I was very happy.

The truck's body is straight. No rust.IT has new flowmaster duals. And there really duals.Pretty nice truck really.I plan on putting some different wheels. And probably BFG's or mickey thompson indy profiles.RIght now it has some real meaty tires that look like there for a 4wd.

Be sure to check the fluid level. If it is low, then add that to a mental list of things to keep track of on a regular basis. It might be that when the tranny was RR'd it was never completely filled up.

BTW, my Jeep does this too--or at least the description is the same. It has a leaky pan gasket that I have put off replacing and I need to top off the fluid periodically.
