I need some advice

So...the more I learn about working on cars the more I like it. I'm now thinking about doing this as a career but I'm not really sure if I want to do that. See, as it is now I'm going to school for a business degree....boring as hell. So, now I'm thinking about going to school for automotive repair and auto body repair.

So I was wondering, any of you guys out there mechanics? If so, would you recomend your job to anyone else? What is the typical pay scale for a new uncertified mechanic? Since I don't know what auto techs make I hope you don't mind my asking.

Thanks for any advice

I worked as a mechanic years ago and it really turned me off to cars as a hobby. If you ask me, it spoils the hobby. Stick with the boring, easy career stuff that pays well, and come home and escape from it by doing what you enjoy.

same here i worked in gas station in high school then as a dealership mechanica nd in independent front end shop. it isn't as much fun doing it professionally and you work on a lot of things you don't really like.

That about sums it up for me. I used to get paid to do it, but now I use it as therapy - to forget about all the BS involved with paying work. If I still did it for profit, I likely wouldn't have any interest in it as a hobby. A bit like the shoemaker's children...

I know how you feel.

I'm an acct major, and it's borin as can be. Specially this semester.

I'm also a certified personal trainer, as working out is one of the things I love to do. Thing is it doesn't pay all that well compared to an accountant.

I've heard many of mechanics say what these guys have said, but for me as a personal trainer it doesn't turn me off not to work out. Maybe it's different I don't know.
