More Air To My TPI
i recently cut out the part under the airfilters on my tpi. the part directly under them that seems to be just useless plastic (its hard to explain i hope sopmeone knows what im talkin about) i heard it increases airflow and it seems to help a little bit. i was just wondering why they (Chevrolet) have it how they made it. with all that plastic in the way. is it just for noise control or what?

One of friends told me that was suppose to keep out water when driving in rain. But it probaly helped with the noise levels. I took mine out and put a homemade ram air induction. Had no problems with water getting up to the filters, doesn't make noise when giving the gas.

i did the ram air thing, just cut off that useless plastics and routed dryer hosing to the back of my foglights, def noticed more power in the butt dyno, not a bad mod for the 3 bucks that it cost for the hosing.

There is a tech article about making custom ram air for Camaros in the tech articles page. It is extremely helpful and even has illustrations. The plastic thing sounds like an air silencer to me.

I did the same thing that nikh23 mentioned. Not only did it feel a little better but when I drove across the country, from Wyoming to S. Florida, I was pulling down about 34mpg with the stock 305 TPI/5spd combo that used to be in my camaro.

I'm glad you brought this up, I was thinking of cutting and ducting that area myself, to compliment my custom CAI.

How exactly do you get rid of that plastic? (It may make more sense to me if I were at my car, but I'm at work right now...) How do you "cut it out" (or is it bolted in...?)

i removed the airbox bottoms and it ruined my filters. they got all wet and stuff. if you have a k&n then im sure it will be ok. but paper filters get death.

yea the best way to get air to your intake would obviously be the CAI, but theres always argumetns about how its not actually getting cold air since its still in the engine bay. as for getting the wet stuff onto my filters no problems here and i've had it on for about a month and a half now, including one terrential downpour with no problems. If you find your paper filters getting wet it gives you an excuse to upgrade to K&N's
if you want pics i'm coming home from college next weekend i'll be glad to take them for you
