New Battery Time. How Many Amps ?
Hi,
I need a new battery since the one I have is 6 years old, and just died (bad cell), and won't recharge.
I was all set to get the cheapo $29.00 Walmart 510 cold cranking amps EverStart battery, when I noticed a battery catalog at Walmart said my car ( 88 GTA 5.7 TPI) was supposed to have a battery with 630 cold cranking amps.
The old battery had 650 cold cranking amps, btw.
Does it really matter if I get the 510 cold, versus the 630 cold ??
Will there be any performance difference?
Thanks,

I would get what ever is recommended or larger.
Personally, I prefer the red top Optima dry cell batteries but they are about $100 more than you are looking to spend.

Thanks for the suggestions. I got the 630 cold cranking amps ( at zero degrees F ) from Walmart for $39. I took it to a parts store and had them test it, and it tested out at 901 cca at 75 degrees F. The car starts up a lot easier now.
