Trouble code 43?

What all does that involve? It does it when it is cold and I first start it up. The car backfires and is sluggish.
Thanks, Gary

DTC 43 - ESC module/circuit problem. Detonation sensor problem.

I'd start by checking the electrical connector at the detonation (knock) sensor on the right side of the engine (near the starter). Unplug it, clean the connecctors, and reseat the connector fully. If there is no obvious problem there, you should also check the connections at the distributor. IIRC, there is no separate ESC module on the '90 cars, when the function was incorporated into the ECM. Since ECMs are quite reliable, I'd suspect a poor connection or failing detonation sensor.
