So the fel-pro is better than the GM gasket. It has to be a 1 piece gasket anyway its a 89 roller block.I read that the fel-pro is thicker than the stock gasket and could cause clearence issue. Is this true?

I read in a couple of old posts that guys that had older style non roller blocks when they used the fel-pro 1 piece instead of the 4 piece it didnt crush as much and caused the the pan to hit the driver side exhust pipe. The block kind of does matter older 2 piece main you could of use 1 or 4 piece gasket. 1 piece main you could only use a 1 piece gasket.(not a flame)I just wanted to know if the gasket for 87-up blocks crushed enough.

I don't see why a 1 piece wouldn't work on your 89. I have a good 1/2 to 5/8 inch between my exhaust and pan. Of course me having 2 cats might make a difference.

the block does matter so that you get the proper gasket set, ,but just because its a 1 piece rear main does not mean you must use a 1 piece pan gasket, the only thing that must be a 1 piece is the rear seal, believe me i built a 1 piece rear main motor with a 4 piece cork and rubber gasket set.
i've used one and four piece gaskets on new blocks and old blocks and ther is no differance. if the pan hits the y pipe move the pipe, there's a lot more movement in the exhaust and less control than a machined part. tell me why the block matters, other than dip stick location if you use a one piece gasket. buy the gasket to fit your application either one piece or four.
