Timing wont advance

my problem is simple -- the timing wont advance with RPM.

it is an 88 TPI and all the ignition stuff is stock so that I can find the problem (ie racing ignition disconnected).

I have a remote mount coil ignition.

I dont know what tells the distributor to advance the timing as this is most likely the culprit.

please help
my car is dying because I have to run the timing at 20* advanced all the time.

Change the module inside the distributor.

there is probably a break in the wire that sends the signal to the module to have it advence. Check the four wire connector int he rear of the dist. for loose wires. I dont remember which wire it is (black/purple?) that sends the signal to the module to advance the timing, but if you back probe it, you should be able to see the voltage increase as the rpms increase. If there is no voltage, there is a break in the wire or maybe a problem with the ecm.
