which EGR valve do i need??
went to autozone to get an EGR valve. and they tell me there are two different OEM part #'s. and i have to tell them which one mine is by taking off the EGR valve. and then wait 3 days for them to order it and get it in, so i can't drive my car unless i put all that crap back on, just to take it off again.. what was the purpose\difference of the two different part #'s???
Breathe,
Nothing against AutoZone, but I wouldn't buy an EGR valve from them unless it comes in a box that says "AC/Delco" all over it. You can economize on a lot of parts (most of them, in fact), but don't install anything but a factory EGR on a TPI engine. The valve is so sensitive to backpresure levels and changes that you'll risk constant error codes with an aftermarket valve. It's even worse if you get one of those "universal" EGR valves with the field-installed orifice washers to regulate the backpressure level.
The difference between their two choices is that one type has a positive backpressure pilot valve and the other has a negative backpressure pilot valve. Chances are that you have a negative backpressure valve, but don't quote me on that - check your existing valve to be certain.
