fan choices
fan choices
I have an 87 lg4 that I am rebuilding I have done a computer delete and I am wondering what you all think about using a thermostatic fan and clutch rather than the electric. I hear so many problems everyone is having with there electric fans. When I bought my car the guy who had it rigged the fan up to the heater blower motor weird setup. Anyway I am not sure I wanna mess with the wiring when all I need to do is bolt on a fan.
You already have an electric fan, and it's already installed. You already have the relay and wiring, so all you need is a fan switch. The electrics will keep the engine cool and not rob power unnecessarily.
Try to find an AutoMeter fan switch or equivalent to screw into the right head in place of the 3/4" pipe plug that lives there. I suppose you could install it in place of the CTS, but either way you'll have to route a single wire from the fan relay (dark green/white wire on terminal 'B' on the fan relay) to the switch. I found a thermostatic switch for about $20, closes at 200°F, opens at 187°F. It's just about right for my 305.

question for Vader
Vader wear did you find your fan switch at and what thermostat are yu running with? How do you feel about using a restrictor plate rather than a thermostat?
