Or fiberglass ones? Just hope for no side collisions.

what you could do is put fiberglass doors or alluminum doors. And then put like a steel bar going across in the middle. That way its lighter then stock (which is stupid heavy) yet still safe if you ever crash. Cause yea our doors seem to be extremely heavy and I later plan to do something to try and lighten them up.

If you had a choice, I'd say that fiberglass is a better idea than aluminum. Aluminum panels dent easily. If you do either, please put a nice sturdy crash bar in there from the hinges to the striker. No need in killing yourself by changing your door, because neither aluminum nor fiberglass is gonna stop anything if someone decides to run into your door. Also, dont forget that the glass is extremely heavy too.

Hmm, wonder how hard a fiberglass door would be to make?? I know I couldn't do it, but I know of some people that may, what tools would be needed?

Yea, that fiberglass is something. It's crazy painting that stuff, I mean they have to gell coat it & all kinds of fun stuff.
In fact GM learned early on the it wasn't cost effective to make all there cars out of fiberglass, though back then they couldn't get the curves without it on the Vettes.

As far as aluminum denting, well fiberglass cracks. It dosn't give at all. However, I havn't cracked my car yet

Ron (note to self: I smell a knock on wood - need to lower deductable on Vette!!!)

When I took off my original ones I weighed them. Power windows, door locks, mirrors, glass and interior panels came to 170 pounds per door.

I've never seen aluminum doors available but that doesn't mean someone hasen't produced them but they do make fiberglass ones. The downside is that they're only designed for racing. The majority of the fiberglass doors out there have fixed Lexan windows installed since there's no provision to mount any sort of window regulator or tracks.

I don't have fiberglass door on my race car yet but I would like to get some. Even my stripped down doors are still heavy.

You can also get fiberglass front fender but I doubt the weight saving would be very much. A fiberglass rear deck lid should cut off a few more pounds but that weight is over the rear wheels where you need it.

Even my fiberglass hood is heavy. I was considering getting a huge sheet of aluminum panel and making a hood. It wouldn't be any more than a NASCAR hood is. Just a sheet of aluminum with a few reinforcement bars running under it. It would be lighter than that acre of fiberglass that's on the car now.

What about carbon fiber, that's lighter right?

I knew someone would say it, but it does weigh less correct. Granted I wouldn't stick a black hood on a white car, like these ricers, but...

For the price of carbon fiber I could pay someone to make me an aluminum hood.
