Car left me walking...
I was driving home from the wall
The car made a 'clunk' noise, could have been a backfire but it sounded like a 'clunk'. Then it stalled (cut out the power stearing) and the RPMS fluxuated from 0-800. then stalled totaly.
I started it backup and drove 10 feet and it did the same thing. It wouldnt start again.
It wants to start but it wont. If I get it to start I have to press thew gas to keep it started and the idle will surge real bad, 0-3k..
I recently replace the MAF and got the alf rebuilt 2-3 weeks ago.
and a new EGR
It's a 2.8.
My dad thinks its the timing chain.

You got your alf rebuilt? What is that? Alternator?
To check and see if your timing chain broke, remove the distributor cap and crank the engine over. If the rotor moves, the chain isn't broken.
With the rpms jumping around and the car dying it seems like you may have a bad connection at the distributor or the ignition coil. I'd check out things in that area. One thing that likes to die out of nowhere is the ignition module. If you can't get good spark, either that or the coil may be your problem. Not sure of what the clunk could be, since you say it could have been a backfire..which doesn't sound like a clunk to me.

Turns out the cap came loose and made the rotor and cap wear out.
Bought new ones, 5 bux for rotor 13 bux for cap, canadian.
It runs good now.

Whew! Be glad it was something simple!
My car left me stranded, turned out it was injectors and that really sucked.
Did Alf enjoy getting rebuilt?
