no becuase the guy said that it was working fine and that there wasnt any problem with it (even thou it was ideling at 1500 rpms which was probably why it was he thought it was working now that i think about it) note: he used a fancy tester thingy what do u guys think? if i exchange my alternator and thats not what was wrong with it then i just wasted $80.00 or so dollars.

But i guess i have nothing to lose exept my car problems....

Well I doubt that what ever is causing your problem is the alternator. When the car is running it runs off the battery which is then charged by the alternator, so if the alternator goes bad eventually you get a dead battery. It usually doesn't take to long either. Your problem sounds more airflow related, you should look for a carberator place in your phone book. Because carbs are so old now alot of shops don't know how to work on them. And there are a lot of shops that are setup to work just on carbs. Anyway I hope you get your problem fixed. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think I am

You have to be "carburetor certified"?

I don't think you need any certifications to do the work. But most shops don't work on carbs anymore. Some do and others don't. You need to find a shop that works on carbs.

STM,

You probably have more than just a choke problem, since even with an electric choke, the engine and carb will eventually warm up and run normally. If you are leaning out after the engine is fully warmed, you may have other issues.

Assuming that the choke is operating correctly and not stuck closed or partially closed.

I'd pull the air cleaner assembly once the engine is warmed up and look at the choke plates to make sure they are fully open.
