2 swap or not 2 swap...that's the question

hi guys, sorry 4 the Shakespiarian intro...
my question for you dear friends is as follows:
can i install PRE-86 heads (416) on a POST 87 350 (5.7) block ? (single piece seal).
the reason being that this particular engine makes a real loud banging noise, like a machine gun, but is not steady, actually sounds like if you were firing for real (short but constant bursts), so i suspect a sticky valve somewhere, but i have a set of fresh overhauled 3 angle 416 heads, so...what do you guys think?
Fernando.

Only problem I know of, is you'll have to get perimeter bolt valve covers, which aren't much.
