Question about tach hookup TBI--->Carb.

Ok Im almost done with TBI---->carb/305--->350 swap. I have a brand new HEI distributer and I was wondering about the wiring. I know my red coil wire goes into my HEI on the BATT terminal and it says put the black wire into the TACH terminal. Well my other wire is a yellowish white. Did 88 cars still have the tach driven by the tranny?

its the 14 awg (IIRC) white wire that was around there, it might have a connector on it (i bet it does) cut off the connector put on a .25" female connect and let her rip
