Can you guys tell me what this is used for?

Ive included a pic of this flange or something that looks to bolt around the cam hole. It was given to me by the machine shop along with the roller lifter retaining items. Ive read lots of SBC material but haven't come across this. Can you guys tell me when to bolt this up or how its used?

cam retention plate....keeps the cam from walking forward on the roller blocks. Bolt it up after you put the cam in. right before the timming chain set.
