Need Advice!

Okay
83 Camaro Z28
early 70's SBC 350
mild ported heads
torker II intake
lunatti cam .458/.458 lift, 218/218 duration
1.6 Roller Rockers
Holly DP 650

What should my timing be at idle? 1500rpms? 3000rpms?
Also, i think the carb has a manual choke but what should i set it to idle at?

you might try your timing at idle around +12 to +15 degrees. When adjusting my warm idle speed, after I've adjusted my air screws, I put the car in gear and set it to idle at about 650-700rpm. Due to your choice of carb I see you have a manual tranny. I'd have it idle around 700rpm in neutral. 1100rpm with the choke on. Just as a sidenote, the airscrews on a holley go clockwise to LEAN the mixture, right? I just drew a blank, lol.

i have an engine alot like yours and mine is about +12 at idle. it runs really good. but then again, im at 8250 feet above see level. im not 100% that it matters though. Talk to a local performance shop. theyve probly done it hundreds of times at your elevation.

Isn't that intake a mismatch to your cam?

Shields, this is not about my mods, i know that my combinations are a lil off, this is what the guy before me did.
This is a post to make my car run with its CURRENT setup. I have a TH350 auto tranny btw. It doesnt have an electric choke.

Should I buy a carb that has an electric choke?

I dont know much about carburators or how to adjust them. I know that u turn the screws on each side.

THat Intake is a Mismatch to any setup.

IMO your gonna have a helluva time getting it to run right w/ a single plane intake on that mild of a setup.

Even the Stock intake would probrably produce better driveability and better ET than that thing.

I was thinking of putting on an Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap manifold. Would that be a good choice? Remember that I have a early 70's 350 on there.

You might run into hood clearance probs then, if you have a stock hood. I'd look into the Weiand Stealth intake $110 idle-6800.

I know you dont want to hear about mismatched parts, but that double pumper shouldnt be on there. You have an automatic. If you don't know much about carbs, look at yours, at the rear passenger side corner see of there is a "upside down hershey's kiss". If there isn't, then you do in fact have a double pumper and you should get a vaccum secondary carb. Let me know if you need a good rebuilt one. Regardless of what carb you have, when you set your idle, make sure the engine is warm and you are in gear with your foot on the break. Should be below 700rpm with that cam you are using.

That's not entirely accurate.

You can run a DP on an auto, but takes some getting used to. I was recommended a DP on here from some very knowledgable guys.
Also, my brothers has had numerous DP/auto combos, running from 11s-13s in the 1/4 mile.

well sure, if you've got a very high stall speed converter to match it. DP's are just too easy to flood an automatic car. It just makes sense. But go figure, I've taken manuacturer's advice and have never used one on a 'matic so I'm probably not the best person to ask.
