hey guys my heater fan or blower motor stoped working the other day and i foudnout the groudn was bad on the motor so i re grounded it and it works great now except when i go to put it on high it goes off, now all other speeds work fine its just high that doesn't. now is this a resistor or something i need to change? thanks

 

Follow the large purple wire as it leaves the blower motor. It should arrive at a small black box within a foot or so. This box is your high speed blower relay. There will be a large red wire going to it. This wire feeds it direct battery. Follow that wire away from the relay. In about 18" or so, basically right above the right valve cover, you will come to a large connector of extremely stupid design, that will be burned to ashes just like it eventually is in every one of the rest of these cars. Replace both halves of it with a large heavy-duty insulated slide connector, not the regular little weenie ¼" ones, but rather the wide thick ones. Life will then be good.

 

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the relay was sticking. there is a relay mounted right next to the fan (on the air conditioner box) that controls the high speed function. try tapping on the relay while the blower is set to high and see if it helps. if not you may need to replace the relay

 

RB83L69- I agree. Don't you wonder what those "engineers"
were smokin' when they dreamed up that harness plug. That
plug melted on my EL Camino and I replaced it with a 10Ga.
butt-splice connector and haven't had a problem since!

I thought it was coincidence since I never heard mention of the melting factor before... Guess I was wrong.

I fixed mine about 6 years ago and was worried since that it would just melt again. I guess that connection IS that bad.

 

ok guys i don;t know all the technical names for these connectors u are talkin about so any1 got a pic or could u explain it. also could i just take the clip out and crimp the 2 wires together or no?

 

Yes, just remove the affected wire or wires from the melted plug
and butt-splice it back together. I changed the valve cover
gasket under it without problems, too.

 

 

See where the A is on accumulator? The black connector with the thick red wire? Thats what will be melted.
