Weekend tune-up, any suggestions? thanks
I am doing the following this weekend, this is my first tune-up since buying the car a couple weeks ago. It has 178000+ miles. Please let me know if there is anything else I should watch out for, I am driving it to IL this Thanksgiving (700miles one way) and back.
1) Change Tranny Oil, Engine Oil, Rear End Fluid
2) Convert to K&N Filter and assembly.
3) Change plugs and wires (any brand suggestions?) (gap?)
4) Check timing (is it totally computer controlled, or can I adjust it)
5) Possibly change waterpump (since to trip is so long)
6) Replace Tranny mount with Polymount
7) Re-tighten exhaust manifold bolts (slight exhaust ticking)
That should do it! Please any suggestions will only help, thanks

if you don't have a problem with the water pump i wouldn't change it. you can set the timing even with ecm controls. ac plugs and any soprt of quality factory replacement wire will work well with a stock engine.
If you have time:
Flush the cooling system and refill to protect to at least 10°F (it's been cool here);
Replace the distributor cap, rotor, and inspect the pickup and reluctor;
Clean or replace the PCV valve;
Clean the throttle body;
Lubricate the steering and suspension;
Repack the front wheel bearings and inspect brake linings;
Check TPS voltage;
Replace the oxygen sensor;
Check tire wear and pressure;
Test all the lights;
Watch your speed in Ill-noise. I've seen a heavy contingent of troopers (at least in District 16) making lots of cash for the state in the past several days.
