Just A Little Question

What do you guys think of Lucas products. Are they worth the money?

And what dino oil do you think is the best. Already know that Mobil 1 and Amosil are best, so any non syn oils please.

If we can't completely convince you, would you consider trying a synthetic blend? I used to use Pennzoil before I started learning about synthetics back in the mid-'80s. Now that they're in bed with Quaker State, I don't have any idea about their products. The only problem I ever had with Pennzoil was with their 15W-50 mineral oil failing prematurely.

Mobil 0 is a mineral oil, and Exxon/Mobil and Shell are two of the most globally recognized names in lubrication technolgy - not just for vehicles, but for a lot more precious equipment than that. Manufacturers of $200-million equipment most frequently base their lubrications recommendations in terms of Exxon/Mobil or Shell products, then secondarily recommend their equivalents.

I've heard mixed reactions to using Synthetics in an older engine... causing it to leak whatever. And I've also heard that it has given people better oil pressure than before. I think mainly I'm concerned about what if any effects synthetic oil will have on my engine beings it's older, or if I'm just worrying about nothing. I've used Max Life and really don't see a difference and have used Lucas and have had higher oil pressure but what should I expect the stuff puts you in the mind of rubber cement. So if you say that running synthetic won't mess up anything I'll be more than happy to try it beings from the way the car was when I got it I don't think it even had oil changes when it needed them let alone add syn oil to it. Just trying to make the engine last as long as possible before I replace it.

As for non-synthetic oils, I'd go with either Valvoline or Castrol.

As for Lucas, some people swear by it. When the tranny in my formula started heading south, I tried some of the stuff, and it didnt help at all. But I've heard testimonies that it stopped a tranny from slipping and whatnot. As for the oil additive, I'm not a real big fan of any additive. I worked at an auto parts store for a while, and we had a little Lucas display, it was clear plastic, and double sided. On each side was a setup of plastic gears, with the bottom gear sitting in oil. Well, one side was straight oil, and the other side was 80% oil, 20% Lucas. When you turned the gears, you could see them lubricate, and see that the Lucas additive side stayed lubricated much better. Anyway, one day at work we got bored, and stuck the little display in the fridge. Yes, we were bored. Anyway, when we took it out a few hours later, the side with the lucas in it had nearly turned to sludge and was really think. Suffice to say, after seeing that, I wouldn't reccomend their oil additive.

Syn oil will NOT, cause leaks. It can however, make ones there worse.

Well, thankfully I don't have any leaks. So I guess I'll be running some syn next time I change the oil. Thanks
