You can place the dist. in any position you want as long as you maintain the correct firing order.

Instead of removing the distributor and installing it a couple of teeth off, you can move all the plug wires back one hole and have another 45° of timing to play with. The result is the same.

Ok so I should just move them all over one counter clockwise? makes since I guess I have to remove the distributer again anyways.....forgot the gasket.

VADER??? which way? I moved #1 plug to the right (counter clockwise when looking straight at it) then i turned the distributer quiet a bit clockwise. and it wont start. battery is running low so im gonna have to get it charged again. Let me know if i did that right vader.

popping? from the exhaust? alittle but i have 89 octane in it and 9.6:1 with the timing at 12 with the vac disconnected. when reconnected it goes up more of course. so i need to get some 93 octane when i make sure the car is gonna run.

Just start all over like you had just put the engine in for the first time, get #1 Cyl. on TDC on the compression stroke and then remove the dist. cap and make a referance mark as to where the rotor is pointing and then make sure #1 spark plug tower is lined up with that mark when you try to start the engine, it should fire right up. Then use a timing light to get it where you want it.
