Computer problem
Computer problem
I have an 82 TA LU5 CFI.
The past months I have been diagnosing this bloody 43 Code. Here's the info:
About a year ago, I bought the car and boy did it need worked on. I replaced a number of things such as:
- power steering pump (8 months ago)
- water pump (7 months ago)
- timing chain (6 months ago)
- harmonic balancer (5 months ago)
- map sensor (5 months ago)
- o2 sensor (9 months ago)
- knock sensor (about 9 months ago)
-smog equipment (some used, some new. TA didn't have any smog when I got it)
- (tune up) cap, rotor, spark plugs and wires. The timing is set by what the book describes (done 1 year ago)
- fuel filter (installed 4 months ago)
- air injector tubes (installed 1 month ago)
- all vacuum lines (done within 10 months)
- cleaned fuel injectors (fuel injector cleaner, cleaned all around the top end)
- XtremeFlow Cat (installed 3 weeks ago)
- oil change (3 weeks ago)
Now, knowing that, for the past year, I have been getting 43 codes from the computer. When this happens, I loose 1/2 the power when accelerating from a dead stop or while coasting. The code doesn't seem to come on if I let it warm up, but in some instances, it does.
When I get that code, I checked the following:
- spark plug wires (I found a wire that was rubbing against the block and was toast! I replaced that and checked the others. They were fine)
- timing (the timing light is dead on to what the book says. The distributor ISN'T tightened down all the way, but doesn't jump out of timing)
- computer (now I think it has alot to do with this since about a day ago, I put on my wipers and they wouldn't shut off. Soon after, I got the 43 code)
In less than a month, I need to visit the Smog Barons. If anyone has any ideas, PLEASE give me a point in the right direction.
Thanks!
