Fuel pump problems on 87 chevy 305 tpi

Ok guys
This is my problem, turn on the ignition switch, and i cant hear the pump turn on. Thought it was Fuse by the battery, that is ok, replaced the fuel pump relay, and that was alright. The relay is getting 12 volts so i worked my way back i took out the connector behind the backseat right above the rearend. I checked it for corrorison it seemed fine. I checked the wires before it goes into the connector in the rear and it read like 10 volts then i checked the wires after the connector, wires closest to the pump, and it read like 8 volts.. So right away i am not getting my 12 volts that i need to run the pump. I need to get 12 volts to the pump to make sure it is working? How could i do that without burning anything up. what is the deal with this, is that connector my problem??? or is maybe something in my switch in the column.. Also i noticed that when i turn on my head lights the dims are VERY DIM and when i put on the brights only 2 lights light up and the other 2 go completely out,,,, Do i have some kind of electrical short somewhere that is causing these symptoms?? Any advice is appreciated, please help it is driving me crazy.
thanks
John

well camaros have one low beam bulb and one high beam buld on each side, so when the brights are on only the high beams will be on.. one on each side..

If you are measuring a 2V drop across a connector, you have a problem with that connector. While the visible portions of the contacts may be in good condition, the parts that actually crimped to the wires may be corroded and failing.

As for the low voltage everywhere else, start looking at other main connections, such as the battery, alternator output stud, starter connections, fusible links, all grounds, and the dreaded fuse panel, whose contacts and/or bussing connections may be failing.

Regarding your headlights, the outer two lamps (low beams) have a low and high beam filament. the inner lamps only operate on high, but the outer lamps should switch from low to high. If they are not lighting on high, check your connections or replace the lamps.

The lights on the side that go out when you turn on the brights, have a bad ground. Find their ground wire (black) and make sure it's hooked up with a good clean connection, and check all the bulb connectors and make sure the black wires are in good shape.

All 4 lights should work when in high beam.

As far as the fuel pump, unplug and re-plug the connectors a few times, see if that helps; if not, your fuel pump is drawing way too much current (the excessive current is what's causing the excessive voltage drop in that case), and you need a new one.
