question

ok if i like drive my car for a while... not real long like 30 mins+ then turn it off.... it has to sit for like an hour before it will start again... now i thought it was the "heat soak" problem from the headers but its just too ****ing cold outside for the starter to be hot for that long... so i had a question.. like when i start my car and drive i smell pretty heavy exhaust.... like what i would expect from maybe it running really rich?? but im not sure what that would smell like... And I feel like maybe the reason it wont start is because maybe it gets flooded????? i dunno i could totally be on the wrong track, i dunno... anyone help me out?

and when it wont start, it doesnt turn over or anything.

sounds like carb prob

If you use the carb board Jester maybe able to help you. He is like the Carb ***. I would check for an exhaust leak. They are much more noticeable this time of years since we tend to drive with our windows up most of the time this time of year

being flooded wouldn't prevent it from like turning over and trying to start. like i'd be looking for a new starter.

missed that

Your right Ede I was addressing the odor, exhaust. Just because it is cold where you are at the start is still prone to heat soak since it sits so close to the headers. I would try getting some of that rap that people put on headers but only rap 6-8 inches above and 12 inches beyond the starter. or make a heat shield to put around the exhaust or the starter the only problem with the heat shield in due time they may develop a rattle due to vibration
