Worry or no big deal?

1990 Iroc-Z
New fuel Pump - count it out on this problem

When I turn my car on before driving I always allow the fuel pump to charge (that whiiiirrrr)- in my experience this allows an easier start. Recently however, the starting has gone wierd.

Let me first make an example of a nice easy start (not b/c I think you're all retards, but for the sake of comparison in my typed representation)

Good start: Turn key, fuel pump 'whirs', start car - dada vroom!

How its acting now a): Turn key, fuel pump 'whirs', start car - dadadada vroom! So basically the starter I believe is just taking a little longer, no big deal.

How its acting now b): Turn key, fuel pump 'whirs', start car - engine turns right over but makes a sound reminiscent of an almost flooded carb... like a gurgled start kind of =P

Car runs great! This is one of the few things that gets my attention. Should I even worry?

someone gave a reason somewhere about what makes the car take longer and longer to srart. I think it's a solenoid for the pump or something. Check the tech articles and then do a search.

Umm, you DID install a new fuel filter when you changed the pump, right? If you're hearing the pump run, then everything is normal on power-up. If you were to monitor the fuel pressure while you do this, you might get some clues. If the pressure is not maintaining after the first, two-second prime cycle, you might have issues other than the pump.

Also, has there been a significant change in temperature in your area? Your '90 should not have a cold start valve (injector), so the servicec injectors are required to cycle longer on cold startup.

If you wait a while, listening to the pump, it will come on, go off and have to come on again when the ECM detects cranking. Which is OK unless you wait a long time and the pressure drops off.

Have you had a good look around under the car for a gas leak? What made you change the old pump out. Did you check the back pressure valve is working OK?

The old pump was tested by my mechanic and turned out to be about 8lbs inadequate, it was most likely the factory pump that came with the car back in 1990

So there is a brand new OEM pump, strainer, and fuel filter.

Erm, winter did recently tighten its cold grasp... on vegas - so the temp here is about low 50s- high 60's depending what time of day and weather... maybe im just being idealistic but shouldnt the car fire up right away if its fuel injected? Maybe my ignition system is shot... need to get my MSD goodies =) but have no cash for that currently.
