starting problems
starting problems
Sometimes the engine will not crank and alls I get is a click sound. I changed the starter and starter solenoid and the problem still came back. Which leads me to believe it is a faulty wire problem or maybe the old kill switch that no longer works but still puts out 12v. I am using that 12v terminal for the starter and overdrive wires.
Can I use the 12v source from the starter solenoid to run the overdrive trans? I want to get rid of the kill switch. I have a feeling that is my problem.
Not sure if any of this makes sense, if not, oh well...
Any help greatly appreciated...

I've had the same problem for 3 years!!! New starter, old starter, it doesn't matter, still have that same click 60% of the time. Sometimes jumping from a different battery helps, but not always. I have a new battery and new starter and it's happening again! I just put the new battery in yesterday along with a new starter!
Anyone, please help!!!!

It's possible that your starter is not mounted far enough away from the flywheel, and the interference is preventing the starter gear from engaging fully, which would also prevent closure of the starter motor contacts. A new or replacement starter would tend to do the same thing if mounted exactly the same. You might want to get a set of round wire feeler gauges and check pinion clearance. Shoot for 0.030" at the bottom of the gear teeth.
