Timing and lopey idle

Timing and lopey idle
Ok, setting the timing, and the car idles really low and lopey, sometimes lopes so much it'll just stall out. If I give it a bit of throttle it won't stall out though. Does this mean I have to advance or retard the timing? It's an 87 HEI setup.
