FIREWALL clutter! Can I eliminate this krap?
I am curious about the firewall junk over by the heater motor. I have eliminated the A/C and now I have two hose ends hanging around making a big eye sore and they are coming out of some weird plastic box that seems to be attached to the firewall. My question is how do I get rid of this or can I get rid of it at all?

Are you talking about the hoses from the water pump and intake to the firewall?
these are to the heater core.
Here's my firewall, I have a custom made box to put in too so I can have my heat work, just haven't installed it yet. Also, it's a bit more cleaned up now, that was just a pic I snapped during some cleaning up.

So by removing that box you will kill your heater? Is that true? The hoses I am talking about are the hose ends that connected to my air cond. condensor.

See that big opening in the firewall.... that's where the air flows into the car at, so I had a smaller box made so air can still flow from the heater.

I am still not understanding why this box exist. You are talking about the rectangle box on the right side right? Does the heater need an intake from outside? Is that what that is?

Ooops, I thought my heater box was still on in that pic.
The circle hole on the left is where the heater motor is, and the AC part of the box , eventhough not used, allows the heater motor to push air into that rectangular hole you see.

I don't mind cutting and mending if my heater will still work and it will let me eliminate that mess and free up some space. Is there anything else I will have to do to make it work other than just surgically seperating the two? BTW nice motor!

Yeah, you'll have to fab a box up, mine is made of sheet metal to divert the heat into that rectangular hole. let me see if i have a pic of it, i don't htink i do though

It's probably be done by now if it was'nt for postin so many damn times.
I just made simple duct work to keep my heat after I ripped out the A/C box. This is the old motor set-up and trying to see the ducting is rather difficult because of the angle, but it might relay the idea.

I took all the stuff off the pass. side. I then added a remote starter silenoid to make it look a little less off balance compared to the drivers side.

That krap on tha passenger side is what I want to eliminate myself but I think it will have to wait until spring or something. I don't want to go a day without heat.lol

I took the heater box off, cut all the wires going to it. Made plates to cover the holes, and painted them to match the engine bay. There really isn't all that much stuff over there to remove once you start ripping it out.
That tube in the picture is the vacum reservior
Like I am sure it worked once upon a time. I took it off.
The vacuum is to work the heater flaps, so I just connected teh pipe to one of the dozens of vacuum connection holes they put in the manifold and it is fine.
That is one sweet looking engine. :hail:
One thing I couldn't see was the thermostat bypass. Normally the heater acts as the bypass, and you need that while heating up. If you don't have the heater, just drill bypass holes in the thermostat. You got to have a bypass to stop localized overheating on warm up.

I really want to know too! I have the same problem with the same circled item. It's amazing how a simple question gets so many random answers
I order a non a/c heater box. Theya re discontinued from gm, but you might be lucky and find some around. I went to a junkyard and got a EL Camino Non A/c box for my camaro ... needs a little fabrication but it can work.
The tube near the brake booster is for sure as I can be the vacuum reservoir for the heater servos which are inside the car. Other years might have them located elsewhere and be different shapes.
They have a non return valve so that they don't adversely affect the engine vacuum.
I dumped mine and the heater still works OK.
All the stuff on the passenger side is for the heater and A/C. you want to make sure no air from the engine bay gets through the holes left when you remove the fan. At best it would be smelly and hot, at worst you can get carbon monoxide poisoning.
Is the car for competition, because there is a ton of heater stuff under the dash which could come out.

so if i take that thingy off of the firewall my heater will still work, like even all the controls will work right? becuz with my brothers 86 sport coupe he ripped out all the ac and made his own heater box and wel when u turn on the AC u just get air right from the blower motor and it doesnt matter what settin u put it at it just comes thru the vents and i dont want that
