ok maybe you guys can help

orry for this being a long post
I have a couple problems first of all, i just put a 406 in my 82 and theres a jingling (its not a knock) sound like the timing chain is hiting on the cover? Even thought last time the engine was run it didnt do that(timing chain only has 10000 miles on it).

Also the last time the engine was run it had 80 psi of oil pressure at idle, now its getting 17psi when hot (60psi when cold).
The only thing that stumps me is the block only has maybe 10000-20000 miles since the block was machined and the crank was turned. I did replace one of the pistons in the 406 before i put it in, but i put it back together right. Could it be a spun rod?

And another wierd thing is the last 2 motors i had in it did the same thing, a 350, with 2 different cranks, that had bearing clearances of .01-.03, also the 305 i had in their did that.

The last problem is we went to put this 406 in time, we got it to 8* advanced at idle and went to see what it was at 2000 and at above 1100 rpm the ignition wasn't putting out enough spark to make the timing light work. I have had a problem with hesitation and not as much power as it should of had could this ignition be the problem? I have a new cap, rotor, wires, and coil

Could they're be a common problem like the distributer causing this oil pressure probem (slipping on the oil pump drive)? (its not a knock) thanks for everyones help, this car has had me pulling my hair out for the last two years with its miscelaneous problems. thanks again

Sorry, I can't help, and I don't want to come across as a *****.

But adding some paragraph structure and capitilazation to such a long post will really help out a reader.

Again, don't take that the wrong way. Just jumbled words like that grrrrr.

By the end of that I was pretty confused.. I got that it makes a strange noise, the oil pressure is low, and it's not making enough spark. You DID put a new timing chain on it when you built the engine, and you're running a compatible distributor gear? If you crank the engine over by hand, does the rotor turn immediately, or does it lag? Have a high volume oil pump?

As far as the noise: loosen the belt and see if it goes away. I'd bet it's the alternator.

Oil pressure: I bet you've had the same oil pressure sending unit installed on all these motors with supposedly low oil pressure, and it's bad. Try a new one. Cheap and easy. You probably don't have an oil pressure problem at all, any more than you did with all those other motors and cranks, just a metering problem.

Sounds to me like your ignition system needs work. Don't worry about the computer, it has no way to "cut off voltage" to the ignition, even if it was still hooked up to it (which it isn't if you have vacuum advance). Try the simple and obvious: find a distributor that works, swap it in, see if it improves. Odds are, it will. Then identify the bad component in your distributor and replace it. Or, just get a whole new (new, not rebuilt) distributor, such as the Accel "Blueprint" one (cheap), and be done with it.

And I gotta agree with the comment about how hard it is to read your post.... it's really rude to people whom you expect to step up and help you, to write that poorly. Most of us usually won't even try to slog through something like that and figure out what you're trying to say.

as of a reply to the suggestions
i already took the belts off, still the same,

distributor gear? i am not sure what you mean, but tomarrow i am going to try and put my dads mallory in. could this effect oil pressure? The same cam/distributor was used every time.

oil pressure- it was read by the sending unit and a mechnical gauge

spark- thats whats confusing me, the rotor, cap, wires, and coil is new

And yes it does have a high volume oil pump, and all three of these motors used 3 different oil pumps.

thanks and again sorry for the long poorly written post, thanks for sorting threw it and trying to help me

well first off

tomarrow is spelled tomorrow, dumbass.

miscelaneous is spelled miscellaneous, moron.

thanks and again sorry for the long poorly written post, thanks for sorting threw it and trying to help me
threw is the incorrect usage in that sentence structure, ****ing dumbass moron. The grammatically correct usage in that sentence is "through." Maybe if you werent such a retard your POS 406 would run as it should. haha

oh by the way other people here, I know this camaro03 bitch in real life, i'm just having some payback for a previous post he did to me. Help him cause he sure as hell needs all the help his lazy I work 2 hours a week punk *** could get!
