Tuning my tpi****HELP*****

Hello I have an 88 formula 305tpi. My problem is with tuning the beast. I can set the timing perfect with the tan black wire disconnected but as soon as I shut the car off and connect it and start the car the timing is no longer set. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem might be. And it runs like crap until it is warmed up. Thanks, Aaron

Sounds normal to me. That's what it's supposed to do.

You mean its normal for the timing not to stay set and for the car to run bad?

Same Problem Here

Hey man I have the same problem like you do, I can set the timing perfect but unless the car is at like 120-140 degrees it will run fine, if not it will sputter or misfire....AARON...p.s. cool name

After you re-connect the timing wire, did you remember to unplug the computer and let it reset before starting the car??? The timing advances alot with that wire connected. Its what the computer is supposed to do. But after you disconnect that wire, and set the timing, you have to restart the computer. Un-hook your negative batt. cable for like 5 minutes or something.
After you start the car, its going to run rough at first. The computer has to "re-learn" what its supposed to do. Get in, and drive the car above 40mph for about 15 minutes. At 40mph the car goes into "learning" mode. Try that, see what that does. If you have done all that, then just ignore my babbling...
