Animal under hood eating&sleeping!
Pests
Blueta89 How is the rodent problem? The mothballs are a good idea, but is a large pain in the rearend. If they ever get down on the manifold and melt you will never get rid of the smell. Place the traps up on the engine with peanut butter instead of cheese on the trigger. If this dosen't help a small bowl of coca-cola will do the trick. How you ask? Mice and rats can't burp. When they drink the coke and run around the coke gets churned around and the little buggers stomach splits and then he dies. Good luck and good hunting.
JulieGTA.....Do not use any kind of animal urine on your car. It eats the paint off and the smell is so bad that you will wish the cat would come back.
The beat way to get rid of cats is a can of sardines and anti-freeze. If you don't want to do that call the local SPCA and let them bring a trap out. This will take a while till all the cats are gone because every male cat in the neighbor-hood is trying to claim the car as their own.

What's a good cat deterrent?
goto wal-mart and get one of those electrical fence box's. plug it in and insteed of running it to a fence, run it to your cars chassis.
anything that touches the car anywhere theres metal... ZAPP!
no more rodent/cat/animal problems. a good theft deterrant too!
PS: get the one for keeping horses fenced in. thats what i use.

Ok, I'm laughing so hard I'm crying and about to wet myself. No offense fellows cause I know this is serious about critter thing. You guys might need to register these threads so a comedian won't use this for profit in a stand up act. As far as hemming that critter up who knows. Cause aparrantly if you use a cat and the cat walks or pisses on the car then your pissed and to get the cat run off you get a dog and he pissess on the wheels then you gotta shoot the dog. But the real take is buying bottled predator **** at wal-mart. Has anybody caught on yet. It is a real pisser ain't it!!!!!!

Ding-Dong! The Witch is DEAD !!!
:lala:
Dingggg Dongg the MOUSE is caught and DEAD!!!
I finally got him the little beggar... (kinda feelin a little sorry for him... but not really)... Here's my rest of the story...
I place 2 simple ole mouse traps (just like in the cartoons) and baited with peanut butter (learned that less is the best) and
kept re-setting traps every afternoon after the mouse kept beating me and getting the peanut butter....
BUT I won out and did not give up.... I knew at least he was around and going for the peanut butter and seemed to be staying out of my car engine (PLUS... I had a couple little nylon sock bags of mothballs laying on engine block also every nite under the hood )..... THat smell was/is still making feel sick while driving car....
Anyhow.... also I left the two traps end to end outside my car right next to front left wheel against the wall and next to looked like a little mousehole (again just like cartoons) in old worn out cinderblock wall...
Sure enuf I got it !!! He was just a little 4-5" field mouse as usual around here in Boston suburbs....
Amazing though ain't it with the temps around here at nite getting down to 20 degrees F and windchill about 10 F for most of last 2 -3 weeks.... this little mouse was so persistent and habitually went for my engine...
Actually I think this or some mouse has been doing this for past 3-4 or more years every winter or all year (can't tell) because I REMEMBER having to air-blow and clean all the little maple seeds out from under engine block cover over & over...
I always just thought it was from all the Fall leaves & debris just getting caught in there by wind....
Now.... I know.... I'm still leaving the two traps out for a while just in case this guy had any brothers/sisters left out there!
Also... by the way I clogged up and closed up that mouse hole in cinder blocks next to my carport spot....
I also got brilliant idea to sort of give that hole a good cleaning out... so ya know what... I took a little gasoline in a about a 1/4 of a small coffee cup and a little funnel and poured it right into the little mousehouse... and a little match (after a couple got blown out).... It's about 4pm and pretty cold....
Ohh first I tested.... I never tried to light up some gasoline soooo... (I'm not that stupid!).... I tested... poured a little little gas on open cement outdoor ground (also moved my car a ways away) and gave that a light. I just burned harmlessly (but went up very very quickly) and burned itself out in about 8 seconds....
SOOOO.... I pour in this 1/4 cup of gasoline (luckily I said to myself not toooo much) and drop a lit match into the mousehole
inside the 2" x 2" triangle crackhole in the cinderblock wall....
and....
BOOOM (or BANGGGG!) and a little or bit bigger flash of fire came out in an INSTANT !!! The BOOOM I'd say was a little louder than a M-AIDE firecracker (not ear ringing or anything) but it happened so quickly it scared the crap out of me a little.... luckily I was cautious and leaned way back away from hole and had gloves on.... BUT I could feel a little dust/dirt blow out of hole from my mini-explosion .... I guess I was lucky.... and not have used much more gasoline....
I learned a good lesson (I think).... Gasoline and fire mixed spell quite a big blast and quick tooo... It was coool toooo though!
(I guess I'm ready for my first rocket launch and follow in the steps of Robert Goddard).
I guess this mouse aint gonna be using this hole much anymore...
cause then a I stuffed about half the daily newspaper down into hole after I poured some rocksalt (I had no sand and was handiest freeflowing stuff I had around to fill up the hole best I could).... Sooo now that little hole is BLOWN UP! CLOSED UP !
for bizzznesss!!!
THAT smelly mothballs under hoood.... Yehhhh better watch out for leaving them on engine block like some good guy here warned.... The smell is physically sickening especially when driving.... With freeezing weather I found couple times the mothballs even froze somehowe right thru the aluminum foil I put down under them and stuck to engine block in a small little pool.... Welll... after driving road a bit it all melts quickly and leaves an even stronger bad mothball smell under hood and in driver compartment.... I got out and wiped it down as best could...
Rest should evaporate eventually.....
Anybody need mouse help - just call me -

that kinda reminds me of a gopher problem my dad had a couple of years ago.my dad has a garden (ex-gearhead, his mid life crisis is a GARDEN!) and he had a gopher that just wouldn't go away. we found two of the holes in the hill next to the garden, so first we tried putting a garden hose in for about an hour, to flood him out. that didn't work. then we tried putting a roman candle type thing that shot 10 M80's out in the hole, that didn't work either. my uncle had given me a dozen quarter sticks (that's a quarter of a stick of dynamite for you non-rednecks. just picture a firecracker, the size of an empty roll of tiolet paper
) for my 13th birthday. we threw one in each hole about two feet in and ran like hell. they closed off the holes, but he just dug right through them. the thing that finally got rid of him was 4 rodent gas bombs. they were a little bigger than the above mentioned squarter sticks, but all they did was release poisonous gas. we put two in each opening, lit them, and sealed the entrances with dirt a large rocks. we havent had a gopher problem since!

Back on the HUNT !
Well.... The WAR is still not over and the second Battle
is on....
I just checked my underhood of car and found moreMORE!
of those stupid maple tree seedlings laying smack on the
middle of the engine block cover just like before for past
3-4 weeks....
This is after I already Trapped DEAD that first field mouse
about 5 days ago....
I had a bad feeling there might be more brothers/sisters of
this guy running around.
I also had left out my mothball bag comptraption (got tired
of putting it in/out of under hood every morning and nite...
I think the big problem I have here is my carport is located
right next to a house on the street which has been abandoned
for the past 4 yrs or so... (guy died and house was never cleaned out or Nuthing!!!)... all grass is overgrown and maybe during
winters a friend of estate has oil company fill the house oil tank
to keep sorta the heat going...
Don't forget this Boston usually around 25-30 F at nite and
just heard we gettin a N'easter for Xmas... great!
Sooo... I'm back baiting my trusty mouse traps with the
glueeeyy peanut butter (got him the last time with)...
I'm already running out of mothballs.... theymelt and evaporate quickly when sitting on engine hot/warm block... also make me
sick to smell when riding car (of course Ipull the ***** out during driving)... but resident smell under hood gets into car...
SUCKS!!!
I gonna get some kind of Mouse BOMB or something!!!
Any budy with some better ideas...
Yea maybe I can sell my story and turn this into some
animated Disney cartooon....
TA-MouseKiller
BANG!
I worked at Saturn in Columbus and I was walking through the tech bay (because I am an idiot when it comes to working on cars)and the mechanic showed me a field mouse had gotten up inside the engine bay and had baked from sitting on the motor when they fired it up. I think the customer complained about a squealing noise.
I also worked with a guy that had a job at the airport and he got in his car (a t-bird) and fired it up and shredded two cats. I don't know what to tell you. Good luck.

You've obviously been dealing with this so long it's time for drastic measures:
- Surround your car with mouse traps. i'm talking like one every 6 inches the whole way around.
if not, then
- Surround your car with a moat of anti-freeze. This has gotta work. Allthough the moat creation should be a somewhat daunting task.
if not, then
- I liked one of the previous gentleman's ideas of electric shock. Research this further.
if not, then
- You could always make your garage air-tight and pump it full of nitrogen. This will garantee there won't be any animals living inside
if not, then
- You could always invest in a cat...
if not, then
- Rent some night vision goggles and buy a 12 gage... Oh yea, and lots of coffee. Stay up all night and kill the sucker(s).

Two for Two now !!!
I got another one !! Yehhhh!!
Man I'm getting goood at this - mouse killing!
I just bagged my second little field mouse yesterday...
Not bad... only took me one day/nite to get this one...
Again used the standard simple cartoon mouse trap
with the peanut butter -- works pretty darn good
I'd say....
I just hope this is the last of them.... gettting sick
and tired of chasing them...
But still placing the mothball baggy under hood on engine
block (for now).

Ditto...
I had a bad problem with mice in my Iroc.
The little bastards were getting in my car through the rear seat drain plugs (They rotted out,and I had new belly pans put in) and the little buggers would come out where the carpet splits from the interior to the trunk.
They were stealing all my GF's candy wrappers and shredding them underneath the rear seats, and eventually the ****** started shredding the seats. They were doing this for about 2 months before I found out.
I was driving down my street and next thing you know, I see this mouse go whizzing across my console and flying into the backseat.
Well I solved this easily. I took my backseats out, set up a mouse trap above the carpet in each seat bucket & put a dab of peanut butter for bait. In 1 night I got 2 of the little punks. But apparantly there was a whole freaking fleet of the punks eating away at my interior.
I set up 8 mouse traps underneath the car, 2 sticky pads & 6 snappers. I caught 4 on the snappers and both sticky pads had a big freakin mouse in them. I left them to suffer and die. I came back out that night and both mice were gone! Those punks must of chewed their legs off because there was a hunk of fur & 4 little paws left on the pad.
I couldn't believe it!

my favorite has to be the time the coach at my high school jumped in to fire up his z28. Had a really hard time keeping it going for the first few minutes. Real bad vibrations adn it wouldnt stay running without revving it... after it smoothed out he decided tocheck under the hood to see what went wrong and man what a mess...snoozing cat got sucked into the radiator fan and little red cat chunks where flung all over the engine compartment.
