305 heads on 327
I'm going to be building up a 327, and i'm kinda strapped for cash right now sooooooooo..... i've got a 64 sj 327 block with forged crank/rods and some 30 over hyperutectic (sic) pistons... block is ready to go so i figure for the time being i might be able to get away with the 305 heads off my L69 and the edel. performer manifold with the 600 holley, my question is will I have much problems with those heads? oh and also what kinda cam/lifters would be good for this temp. setup?
There should be no problems whatsoever using those heads on the 327. The only problem is that you won't be able to see the real potential of your engine with those heads, but if you must do it, it will work.
Assuming your pistons are flat tops and the L69 heads are 58cc you should get some good compression out of that set up. Will you have time to work the ports at all? Adding 10 to 15 cfm to each port with around 9.8 to 1 compression ration should be pretty decent. Since even stocks heads seam to flow best at .500 inch lift I would think you would want to go with a cam close to that much lift. I do realize that is harder to do with hydraulic flat tappets. But as far as duration goes you know your gearing and what rpm range you will be in most of the time so I would use the manufactuers guidelines on that.

As stated above the 305 heads will work fine on a 327 flat top motor. If yours have domed pistons you should check for clearance.
Stock 305 heads have full sized ports but small valves.
If you can upgrade to 1.94 x1.60 valves and spend some time porting the head you'll have a fairly decent "street performance"
head thou. Avoid any of the "swirl port " heads. for any hp work.

Before you do any work to the 305 heads, have them checked for cracks.
With pre 1987 heads, the best ones to use are early 305 castings. The 354 and 434 castings are supposed to be the best. Install some 1.94/1.6 valves.

) I donno.. any suggestions on a cam for that kinda setup? 327, .030 over, edel. performer manifold, holley 600, 305 heads with some bigger valves

For a cam, something like comp cams 268H high energy
would work well. specs are 218/218@.050 .454/.454" 110 lsa.
