Just swapped fuel pump, what kind of problems could it have caused me?
I just replaced my stock fuel pump with a high flow chrome mallory pump as the other one was leaking oil out of one of the holes. Like literally spraying it all over my engine compartment, and several times has scared the crap out of me with smoke coming out from under the hood from the oil getting on the headers. This only happened at high load conditions. I have a high volume oil pump also. This Im sure didnt help the situation. But the pressure of the stock pump would fluctuate on my gauge when ide rev it at idle in park. Now it is a rock solid 9-10 lbs, whereas it would shake two or 3 lbs either way with the other pump. My car seemed to have been not as strong at full throttle as it seems like it should judging by part throttle with the secondaries closed. it also makes no power above 4800 rpm in 2nd, where the peak should be at 5200. Will the new fuel pump cure any of this? It would also noticeably run short on power if you accelerated hard up hill for any length of time. What was wrong with the fuel pump to spray oil from the pump and could it be to blame for some past problems? The car is now snowed in and wont be driven until every ttrace of salt is gone from the roadway.
