Uh oh...port dimensions...
Ok. I was checking out my new intake and heads to see if I needed to port match anything. I noticed that my intake (edelbrock 2101) ports were about the same size as the recommended gasket.
When I put the same gaskets on the heads the ports in the heads look alot smaller.
So I got the dial caliper out and measured. The head port dimensions are 1.911 x 1.114. The intake port dimensions are 1.891 x 1.163.
Is a .050" ridge on the head going to kill the air flow? If it's going to hurt that bad, recommend me a different intake. I'd rather do that than grind on these heads.
thanks

Port matching the heads to the intake and/or gasket rarely produces much power gain. It's one of those things that just FEELS so right, but in reality does little. Unless you're trying to extract that last possible HP from the motor, I woudn't worry about it.
I have used those same Iron Eagle heads with a Weiand intake and had the same issue- the ports in the head aren't quite as big as the intake. However, I have foud that this is the case with almost any typical combo of intake/heads you could name.

thanks. I plan on going to a DIY multiport setup after I get the van working again.
I just wanted to make sure that the .050" ridge wasn't a 20 hp robbing ridge.
