Non 3rd Gen. Ignition module on 87 Cav

So there we were, diagnosing the problem on the pos cavalier work car, where it'll start, barely, and not stay running. I suspected the ECU wasn't recieving the info from the DIS Ignition module, and it would only run in "crank" mode and not transition to EST. Car would stay running if the key was held in the forward crank or start mode, but once let back into the run mode, it would die really quick. Even jumpered the fuel pump to run, to see if there was some problem with that, but to no avail.
Anyways, I'm convinced that it's the ignition module. Problem is, it's VERY HARD TO REACH. ARGHHH!
It's an 87 Cavalier station wagon, with a 2 liter, TBI engine and auto tranny. The module is on the back side of the engine under the intake manifold and above the tranny. I can get fingers on it, barely, and with some contortion. I don't have a clue how I would get a new one back on. Does anyone have a trick or helpful information on how I should tackle this one? I don't want to remove the intake manifold, but it is looking like one of the better options.
HELP!

Can you reach the wiring harness? If so, you could temporarily install a replacement to test your theory. Just make sure you provide a good ground at the mounting screws and some sort of heat sink for the module, like large piece of sheet metal.
