question about an engine

ok heres the deal, i was looking at this camaro the other day and the guy said that it has a 350 with 20k on it. my question is he said that it's a target or targo motor, i just wanna know who makes these and if they're any good, because i'd only be buying the car for the engine. thanks in advance.

The "Target" motor is a truck 350 that failed final production-line QC, and was "remanufactured" by GM, usually in Mexico (hence the "Targo" nickname). It's sold by Chevrolet dealers. It's their ultimate cheapo replacement fleet vehicle service part, absolutely not a performance thing in any way whatsoever. Junk heads (993 probably), junk cam (929), dished pistons, the whole low-perf drill. But it's a 350 block and crank and rods. So if yo can get the car for like $500 or so, it would make an OK core short block for building into something decent, and maybe leave you with some stuff to part out to recover the extra cost.
